Facilities

The University's academic computing facilities are all linked by a campus-wide fibre optic network. The department's computers form an integral part of this resource.

Computer Science students have access to the following computer laboratories which are dedicated to Computer Science and Applied Computing students:

  • J301, Dell Optiplex, Intel Core i5 processors, 23" displays, Windows 10 (this is primarily a first year lab)
  • J310, Dell Optiplex, Intel Core i5 processors, 24" displays, Windows 10/Linux (dual boot).
  • J327, Robotics, Advanced Networking and APCO 2P11 (Personal Computers and Network lab)
  • D205, Dell Optiplex, Intel Core i5 processors, 23" displays, Windows 10/Linux (dual boot).

These labs are connected to a 16 core Linux Server and power points for laptops have been installed in designated sections within each of our labs. Wireless access is provided by the University in all buildings to support laptop connectivity.

The department's facilities are primarily housed in J-Block of the Mackenzie Chown Complex. This block was constructed in 1993 specifically to house Mathematics (located on the fourth level) and Computer Science (located on the second and third levels). In addition, a few staff and faculty have offices in D-Block of Mackenzie Chown.

The 200 level of J-Block also contains two general access computer labs maintained by Brock's Information and Technology services as well as a few lecture and seminar rooms.
