Palm Tree
The first model to be created was the palm tree since it was essential to any tropical climate. A picture of a Bismark palm was used as a reference. The model's trunk consisted of a nurbs cylinder. The base was created with a combination of a nurbs cone and a nurbs cylinder that had a greater diameter than the trunk but was length wise much smaller. The palm leafs where created using a nurbs cone that consisted of roughly around 60 degrees instead of the usual 360, it was then rotated and attached to another nurbs cone spanning only around 15 degrees creating the branch. To generate several different variation of the palm leafs and branchs they where then duplicated using a slight offset in rotation and translation.

There where three shading groups created for the palm tree one for the trunk and base of the tree, one for the top where the leafs stem from and another for the palm leafs. The palm leaf shading group had a transparency mapped to it so that the nurbs cones used to create the leafs now had the appearance of breaks in them making them more like leafs rather than one big leaf.

Large Rock
The large rock was as a nurbs sphere that I deformed the CVs on randomly to give it a rock look. Then three more smaller nurbs spheres where created and deformed and attached into the larger rock that then became coral in the underwater scene. A shading group was created for the large rock consisting of a marble texture and a rock texture was used as a bump map. Each smaller sphere had its own unique texture that a scanned for a corals book.

These are the three corals that had unique scanned textures.

The fish
The body of the fish is a nurbs sphere that was deformed using CV deformation. The tail is nurbs cone that was also deformed using CV deformation. The eye is a nurbs sphere that was scaled down. The fin was also a nurbs cone with a span decreased to around 90 then deformed using CV deformation. There is three shading groups for the fish. The one for the eye was created using a ramp from white to black and then rotated giving the impression of an pupil. Then a ramp texture was created for the fish body and another for the fins. Originally I had scanned in a tropical fish texture but it did not have the effect of the ramp texture so I decided against using it
The rainbow
The rainbow is a polygon plane that was deformed with the middle CVs being raised creating an arch. A shading group was created and a ramp texture was applied. The translucent properties of the shading group where also increased to make it more realistic.
The clouds
The clouds are simply nurbs spheres the where scaled to give them more of a cloud like appearance. After the first cloud was created it was then duplicated with a variation on the scale. The shading group that was used was courtesy of the Alias | Wavefront web site since after some effort I couldn't create a decent cloud shading group.

Smaller Rock / Fire pit
The smaller rock/fire pit consisted of one nurbs sphere that was deformed and scaled much smaller. It was then duplicated with each rock having a change in rotation. The rocks where then placed in a circular formation creating the fire pit. The shading group used for the smaller rock was a variation of the one used on the larger stone consisting of a rock texture and a rock bump map.
To finish of the fire pit several duplicates of the branch on the palm tree where brought down and placed randomly in the pit and given a darker color.
The smaller rock was later used in the animation when it was skipped across the ocean and sunk to the bottom.
