Salute To Gir!

Meet Gir... A wonderfully inept robot from the television show 'Invader Zim'. Intended to be a tactical genius elite soldier, Gir ended up a few fries short of a happy meal upon creation. Serving his owner Zim as an A.D.D. ferret might, he provides no end of entertainment :) In the premier episode of the show, Gir decided to spend the entire space flight to Earth singing his newly created "Doom Song". I decided this would be the backdrop for a good portion of my piece. However, to really create a sense of doom, some random CSound creations would have to occur simultaneously. So, using my complete and utter lack of musical skill, I started with some ideas from the online tutorial. Deciding that my ability to create music would be about on par with Gir's, I did my best to massacre any semblence of humanity from the notes.
While some of my instruments were taken near verbatim from the tutorial (to provide some sort of starting point), the rest were simply mishmashes of options in hopes that the result would approach my idea of Gir bashing his fists on an instrument panel in time to some completely alien tune repeating in his head.
To create the instrument, I started off with the idea of alternating between right and left channels. I also wanted to mix seperate Pluck sounds together - and "Gir-ify" them with some granular synthesis. In the end I decided to make a pair of instruments. The first would have a seperate pluck for each channel - with each pluck modified via granular synthesis - and the second would reverse the channels. To have this work best, I decided to always alternate the two instruments in my orchestra file.
To hear my tribute to the wonderful Gir (and to experience what it is really like to have your ears bleed), feel free to download the sound clip.
