Pumatic - CSound Composition

This short composition (probably just about all you can handle) is an electronic rendition about a dangerous animal known as the Puma and its wrath upon mankind. Throughout the composition the listener is left hanging in suspense as to what has happened and what will happen with regards to the Puma's attack. The end of the song does not explicitly reveal the outcome of the attack either. Instead, this is left to the listener's interpretation.

Puma AttackIn creating Pumatic, I derived my inspiration primarily from the image shown to the left. As you can see, the Puma is launching an all-out ferocious attack and I made a direct attempt at incorporating this somehow into the composition. It is interesting to note that the screaming sample included in the composition was used both for the individual being attacked and then later on for the various growls from the Puma played back at lower frequencies - so perhaps there is a Puma within all of us.

Instrument DiagramThe instrument I chose to create for the composition was quite simplistic and is one of the main instruments throughout the composition played back at various frequencies and oscillations. It is built upon three oscillators allowing control over the general amplitude of the instrument, the frequency, the rate of oscillation, and the panning amount between the two channels.

A basic granular synthesis was used to provide the low frequency rumbling effects. In total, there were three instruments and three samples used.
