COSC 3P98 Animation Froggie Project

JoJo the FROG

By Joanna Barchanska

INTRO
During this FROGGIE animation project, the frog's background is constant. This is his home territory and although "JoJo" (the frog), is not seen frolicking on his distant island, there he has experienced a peaceful and pleasant life. We see him here displaying his skill at the long jump, hopping from one small island in the background to a closer island. "JoJo" is a *social butterfly* and loves visits from human viewers!!

Models

Froggie Haven

My froggie's home was created using Bryce 4.0 and then imported into Poser where the animation was created. No animation of the background image occurs, only the frog is manipulated using Poser.

JoJo the Frog

This model was the main character used, throughout the entire animation. The trouble working with a frog is that, although the use of key framing helped out, JoJo's movements are NOT the same as humans(HINT: I'm NO frog..a frog lover, but NOT a frog). JoJo's motions flowed better with the use of key framing.

Sound Effects

Click Here This was the sound that was heard at the beginning of the animation, just to let the viewers know who's in charge!!
The sound was retrieved from "www.findsounds.com". JoJo's "ribbit" shows the use of sound files in animations, as was required in the assignment guidelines.

Tools

The following tools were used for the animation :
  • Curious Labs Poser
  • The entire animation was done using this application. The background was imported and therefore remains constant throughout the entire animation. The camera view's also remained constant, viewing from the "main camera" at all times. The final animation was made in Poser
  • Bryce 4.0
  • The frog's home (island) was created using bryce's "mountain terrains" and the sea water was created by defining a "water plane". Then the mountaineous island was added along with the trees and plants found in the surroundings. Then the two mini-islands were created by inserting rocky terrain into the scene.
  • SoundEditor
  • The sound for the animation was put together using the "SoundEditor". Sounds that were found from the "findsounds.com" website were put together to make the atmosphere more enjoyable for JoJo the frog. Unfortunately, the sounds that were put together were not able to be heard or imported into the Poser environment.

Rendering

There are 480 frames in the animation.
The surroundings were rendered before they were imported.

Conclusion

This animation began as an interesting challenge, and I enjoyed figuring it out. But as it progressed more specifics had to be dealt with. To make the animation fluent, each frame had to be individually editted, and even after this, jaggies were still produced. The frog model was also hard to deal with do to the fact that, well I'm no frog and not really aware of all the regular forms of movement for the reptiles. Once I was familiar with the Poser program I was able to go through the animation multiple times during editting.
